What is WeChat?

WeChat is a social media application which is developed by a Chinese multi-billion dollar company called Tencent. This application is first released in January 2011 for the use of the people in China. But according to the new stats of this application, more than 700 million people use this application within china and more than 70 million users use it outside of china. The main purpose of this application is to connect people together by sending free messages, pictures and videos. This application is available for Android, Windows, IOS and BlackBerry. Here are some pros and cons of WeChat;

Pros:

• Can do payments using this mobile application.
• Not only messages but also can make video calls as well as audio calls to your friends and family.
• There are so many games which comes up with this application. You can connect with your friends and have fun playing with them.
• This application can also hail taxies whenever you need to go somewhere.
• Can share your location with others.
• Can find friends in WeChat using so many ways.

Ø  QR code – Users can scan each other’s QR codes and add friends in WeChat.

Ø  Shake – This feature will match the WeChat users who physically shake their phones at the same time.

Ø   Look around – With the help of this method, users can be friends with other people who are nearby.

Ø  Drift bottles – A person can create a message and send it to the virtual sea. When a random user finds that message, he/she can respond to it.

• Group messaging in WeChat can connect more than 500 people at ones for a conversation.
•  This application is free so that anyone can download it and use it.
• WeChat doesn’t requires to download voice messages as an attachment. So that users can listen to the voice messages instantly.
• Privacy of this application is very high. Even the comments for your “Moments” can be only seen by friends.

Cons:

• Don’t have a status like WhatsApp or Viber. So it is hard to know whether the user is online or offline. Also you don’t get to know whether the user is active or whether he/she has deleted WeChat application.
• The default language of this application is Chinese because it has been developed by a Chinese company. You can see some other languages when you go the setting of the application to change the language but this application is mainly built for Chinese users.
• Some functions will not work outside of china. For example the “Hire a taxi” option will not work in other countries.
•  Need to have an internet connection in order to use WeChat. You can’t work offline in WeChat.
